Happy New Year by Reikomuffin Happy New Year by Reikomuffin
... I need more practice emulating real fireworks. xD

It's been awhile since I've done this. Well... Probably the first time I've submitted something like this.

Well. Happy New Year~ (It's late but meh.)

Monster Hunter 5th Anniversary: For Creatures (I know, right?)

At the Gala, there are ponies who... Nevermind. :iconpinkiehpie: I need some sleep now. xD

I have to agree your Fireworks look great. They go well with the background style. Not knowing what you were trying for. I think you hit the nail on the head with them. While your background looks great, it is not very detailed. As in the grass is not very bladed and the walls are not very rugged. The best way I can think of how it looks is kinda oil painted or water colored in style.

The background (again no matter how you intended it to be) is perfect for allowing the 2 girls to stand out as the focus. Which should be the fucus. The viewers eye should focus on them more then the background. Like a if you stuck your finger in front of you and focused on it. The background would look out of focus and blurred. It is a wonderful way to do a background I think.

While I accept your background and almost everything about the picture. I do think that Lyra's neck is a little long. It may not really be that long, but with the bare neck and long almost bare mane next to it. It adds to the visual affect of being overly stretched. The ribbon adds to it by giving a base line to show the length to her chin. Perhaps a ruffled color like Bon Bon's or the ribbon centered with the neck would lesson the visual affect.

No matter what I said, really like this picture. Thank you for your great art and I am going to keep looking.

Haha. I still get bothered by Lyra's neck. At first I thought it was like, "Oh this'll work! A little bit of (somewhat) forehead snuggle." Then suddenly I realized her neck was too "NOPE" after finishing it. :iconpinkiehpie:

Also. I really appreciate the feedback and I've been trying to be a little more detailed on my backgrounds.
No problem. I only provide my critiques to help. Free to use my thoughts in any way.

As for the backgrounds. It is nice to expand your skill with them, but like with this picture. A very detailed background is not always a good thing. Sometimes simple and less is more. Though I have no dought that what you create for the future will great. Looking forward to more of your art. :D
For a second, I thought that earth pony was an OC. My bad, it's Bon Bon.
